It tells the story of supermarket employee Ding Mao (played by Wang Yitong) who accidentally cooked the ornamental shark in the store and began to hear a strange sound. At the same time, Zhang's father Ding Jianguo (played by Yin Fang)'s missing person notice and the constant strange things happening around him push him back from a southern city to his hometown in Northeast China where he had been absent for 20 years, thus embarking on a period of reality and fantasy. A journey of searching for roots intertwined with personal memories and the imprints of the times. During the journey, he meets a group of strange people such as an experimental musician (Li Xueqin), a mysterious Japanese painter (Huang Miyi), and a broken leg trainer who was attacked by a shark. In abandoned playgrounds, winter zoos, and old supermarkets selling shark meat, he gradually pieced together his father's ups and downs in life trajectory, and also completed a self-exploration about memory, identity and reminiscence of the times.

Director Zhong Kaifeng graduated from the Central Academy of Drama with a major in film directing, spanning the diverse fields of film, experimental music, and novels. During that period, a 2005 news incident accidentally became the collective memory of the era surrounding the city, so he wanted to use music to complete a film about sound, the past and the present.
