On October 22, it was learned that Huang Dong, former vice president of technology of Tudou, had officially joined Mango TV recently as CTO.
Data shows that Huang Dong has served as vice president of technology for Tudou and vice president of product technology for Youku Tudou Group. He has presided over the design and operation of many large-scale high-capacity products and systems for Youku Tudou.
Huang Dong left Tudou in May 2013, just two months after Youku and Tudou announced the merger. After leaving the company, Huang Dong joined Shell Electronics as vice president of Shell Electronics, and led the router project "Magic Bean Router" in charge of Shell Network.
Huang Dong's joining Mango TV this time may be related to Mango TV's plan to independently develop smart hardware\OS. Mango TV is one of the seven major domestic Internet TV licensees. It has previously adopted a "closed model" and a cooperation model pre-installed by hardware manufacturers. Now that Mango TV has changed its strategy to "open download"+"manufacturer pre-installed", the industry speculates that Mango TV's smart hardware may already be deployed.
According to public information, Mango TV announced in June this year that it had completed Series A financing of RMB 500 million, with a valuation of RMB 7 billion. According to sources close to Mango Media (the controlling party of Mango TV), Mango TV is about to launch Series B financing, and its valuation will exceed 12 billion yuan after financing.
