The third anniversary of the Little Composer Workshop is more international and more future
July 2nd The 2018MISA Little Composer Workshop (hereinafter referred to as "VYC"), jointly planned by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra (hereinafter referred to as "Niu'ai") and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (hereinafter referred to as "Shangjiao"), was officially launched.
this year, nine young composers joined a seven-day workshop for young composers. During these seven days, five Twin cities composers from New York and Shanghai will bring courses that fully stimulate their imagination: they participate in music games, communicate with performers from Shanghai and New York, and receive targeted guidance and training, which can awaken their appreciation and creativity of music. It can also improve the professional composing skills. The young composers will create a work within seven days, which will finally be premiered by the performers of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on July 8 in the concert hall of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. From the sprouting of the first inspiration to the birth of the first work, it only takes 7 days.
taking root and gradually becoming influential has attracted young overseas composers to participate in
Little Composers Workshop is a public music education program founded by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1995 and proposed by Jon Dick (then deputy principal of the double bass and well-known composer of the Jon Deak Orchestra). For more than 20 years, VYC has been exploring a question: what kind of music is in the minds of children? To find out, Jon and New Eyre have been working with New York public schools to encourage music-loving students over the age of 9 who do not have a professional composition background to create their own music. and professional orchestras perform their works.
since its inception, VYC has benefited children from 15 countries except the United States, producing nearly 100 concerts-VYC crosses national boundaries, conveys the spirit of inclusive music to music-loving children around the world, and the stories of young composers have repeatedly appeared in time, the New York Times and other extremely influential media.
in 2016, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Education Center, in cooperation with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, launched the "VYC" project in Shanghai, and held the first Shanghai Summer Music Festival (MISA) Little Composer Workshop Concert in July and the second Little Composer Workshop Concert in 2017.
2018 is the third anniversary of the landing of VYC in China. Compared with the previous two years, most of the contributions received come from Shanghai. This year's contributions not only have a small scale, but also have a wider "origin". A total of contributions from eight provinces and cities and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and even Feng Yulong, a high school student in the UK, gave up four large-scale school performances and had to fly back to China to participate in VYC. He said, "when I was in England, many of my works could only be simply performed by piano and violin with my classmates, and many ideas could not be realized." It is rare to have a professional and diverse interpretation opportunity like this.
the third anniversary of the project VYC is growing
in this year's VYC mentor lineup, in addition to founder Jon Dick (Jon Deak), there is also Jessica Mays (Jessica Mays), head of the project department of the New York Little Composers Workshop. Over the past two years, the high quality of creation and completion has made both Shanghai and New York more confident in the development of VYC in China, as evidenced by a stronger mentor lineup from New York.
there is also a special and familiar figure in this year's mentor camp-Feng Shuya. Last year, her symphony "Memoirs of Manishi" was premiered by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra on the MISA stage; in February 2018, the ensemble "Dog Totem Festival" premiered at Lincoln Center in the United States, and this old friend of VYC joined VYC this year as an assistant to the art tutor.
over the past three years, VYC has been growing up, and many talented teenagers are also growing up together. Young composer Miao Rong, who only entered the top 12 in his first term, premiered "Autumn of Suzhou Creek" on VYC last year. He and founder Jon met at this year's concert to show him the "results" of the past year. Zhu Ziqi of the second Little Composer Workshop will go to the United States this summer to attend the composition camp of the Curtis Conservatory of Music.
these young composers with no professional composing background have learned from VYC to use imagination and creation as a force to constantly burst out their energy. As an important part of the summer music festival dream stage series, VYC should conform to the purpose of MISA, let music education put away its usual seriousness and profundity, take music as the medium, and communicate the future in a more moist and silent way.
