FIRST Film Festival announces venture capital award results "Old Bastard" won US$10,000 from Alibaba Pictures Plan A
On July 26, the 10th Xining FIRST Film Festival announced the award results of the venture capital unit. The script "Old Bastard" written by director Zhou Ziyang received a US$10,000 script development grant provided by Alibaba Pictures Project A. Alibaba Pictures CEO Zhang Qiang said that in the future, he will conduct more in-depth cooperation with First Film Festival to create more development opportunities for young filmmakers.

This year is the fourth time that the FIRST Film Festival Venture Capital Conference has been held. After two rounds of pre-examination and review, the project review committee selected "Cuckoo","Changfeng Town", and "Old Bastard" from hundreds of registered film projects. For 12 projects, the project creators made proposals to the project review, film companies, and industry guests at the film festival site.
"Old Bastard" tells the story of a family that has changed and children kidnap their father in order to protect their own interests. Director Zhou Ziyang hopes to use this film to explore emotion, society and humanity from the perspective of family and interpersonal relationships.
After four years of operation, the FIRST Venture Capital Association system has matured. The organizers hope to establish a dialogue and communication mechanism between medium and low-cost films and the film industry through this form, provide promotion opportunities for film plans, and promote more high-quality film works to enter the big screen.
Zhang Qiang, CEO of Alibaba Pictures, said that China's film industry has developed rapidly in recent years and the demand for talents is growing. Outstanding young filmmakers need platforms like FIRST to find opportunities to communicate with film companies and industry veterans."We hope to provide not only financial support to young filmmakers, but also hope to have the opportunity to help young filmmakers make movies."
In October 2015, Alibaba Pictures Group launched "Plan A", which consists of four parts: first-line filmmakers, 8090 Comedy Factory, a full-business incubation consortium and a 1 billion yuan special fund, targeting global films under the age of 45. Practitioners explore and cultivate the top A-level talents for the entire industry.
