[Topic·Shanghai Film Festival] Wu Ershan: The spirit of craftsmanship is self-humility among elites, and China lacks professionalism

Director Wu 'ershan also bluntly said: "Craftsman spirit is the self-humility of the elite. What China lacks is not craftsmanship but professionalism. This is what China filmmakers should learn from Hollywood."

On June 19, the "2017" Hollywood Craftsmen "Sino-US Film and Television Sharing Conference, which aims to build a bridge for in-depth exchanges between China and the United States in film and television culture, concluded successfully at the Shangri-La Jing 'an Hotel, Shanghai. The conference was co-sponsored by Jing Orange Pictures and The-H-Collective. It invited former Oscar Chairman Sid Ganis, current Oscar Chairman Mark Johnson, current Oscar Chairman for Best Foreign Language Film Jury, and industry heavyweights such as Joe Roth, famous American producer of the "Extreme Agents" series, Song Ge, chairman of Beijing Culture, famous directors Wu Ershan, and Ning Hao to discuss "the ingenuity of Sino-US film and television manufacturing."

The second half of the forum focused on successful films with both art and business. Joe Roth, the famous American producer with the world's highest box office sales, Jeff Kirschenbaum, the producer of the "Speed and Passion" series, Song Ge, the current chairman of Beijing Culture, and Ning Hao, the "ghost director" of the famous mainland billion-dollar club, conducted an in-depth analysis of the differences between China and the United States, as well as the opportunities and challenges of Sino-US film and television cooperation.

Director Wu 'ershan also bluntly said: "Craftsman spirit is the self-humility of the elite. What China lacks is not craftsmanship but professionalism. This is what China filmmakers should learn from Hollywood." Sid Ganis said humorously: Americans don't like to read subtitles is the main reason why China films are rare in the American market, but the future development prospects are broad. Song Ge, chairman of Beijing Culture, said: "Regardless of Chinese and American films, it is important to adapt to the viewing habits of new movie audiences and is an important factor in the success of future box office movies. The cooperation between China and the United States in films requires more thinking about how to transform China values into universal values."

Both Chinese and American guests agreed that not a single director system or producer system is the key to the success of the film."Now is the best era for China filmmakers, because no matter how bad the movie is made, someone will pay the bill." Director Urshan said, so don't worry about whether the director or the producer is more important, just like Joe Ross (Joe Roth) said: "A good movie must first have a good story that can resonate with the audience and impress people is the most basic factor for the success of a movie." Director Ning Hao also said: Influence is the king's way. Management-driven or creation-driven needs to consider the size of the film. No matter who leads, they will ultimately be responsible for the film and produce good down-to-earth works.
