Disney says AI is important to their work and has the potential to become mainstream.
In the official promotional video, one of the robots looks like Pascal the chameleon in "Rubik's Cube", and the other looks like the new robot Jake from "Star Wars".
Pascal's size can be held with one hand, which is the minimum limit for the complex robots Disney Fantasy Studios can build to test. Pascal can use AI autonomy to turn eyes, move mouth and facial skin, and it also supports manual manipulation, such as tilting the body.
"I think artificial intelligence and machine learning are very important to our work," Jon Snoddy, senior vice president of research and development at Disney, told the BBC.
"The robot can move between tourists. They need to understand where tourists go, have goals, and have to know how to navigate the human world."
A recent report by foreign media found some security flaws in existing robots and warned that criminals could use these flaws to gain control at home and in the workplace. For example, hacking robots can fire in the kitchen by tampering with electricity, or may poison family members and pets by mixing toxic substances with food or drink.
Regarding the fears that AI robots may bring, Snoddy added that Disney will conduct tests to ensure its creations give fans a positive and safe impression.
