[Watching Entertainment at the Two Sessions] Zhao Dongling: Three-quarters of TV stations lose money and cannot compete with the Internet
Zhao Dongling, a representative to the National People's Congress, said,"You encourage one star for each drama, two stars, or three stars. For these TV stations, you can allow four stars. Now three-quarters of TV stations are losing money, which can allow them to have blood-producing functions."
The rise of emerging media has brought severe challenges to traditional media represented by television and newspapers. Zhao Dongling, a representative of the National People's Congress and deputy artistic director of the Shandong Film and Television Drama Production Center, put forward suggestions at the two sessions to create a general environment conducive to the development of TV media.
According to Shandong News Network, the news center of Shandong Radio and Television, in recent years, China TV, known as the "No. 1 Media", has encountered unprecedented difficulties: not only has viewers lost, but the viewing duration of viewers has also continued to decline. A large part of the lost viewers have turned to emerging media such as the Internet. At the same time, the brain drain has caused serious blood loss from traditional media such as television and continued to decline in competitiveness.
Zhao Dongling, a representative to the National People's Congress, said,"Advertising revenue has dropped sharply, even lower than the growth rate of GDP. Because of this, the TV station lost its blood-producing function."
Zhao Dongling believes that the strong rise of new media and the continued economic downturn are the reasons why traditional media such as television are in trouble. Different management standards have also caused many viewers to flow to the Internet. Take TV dramas as an example. Television stations require heavy censorship, but satellite TV has at most two episodes in the evening. Television is bound and unable to compete with the Internet, which also intensifies the flow of industry funds and outstanding talents to the Internet. When it comes to the issue of collecting and broadcasting TV dramas, the situation in provinces, cities and autonomous regions across the country is very different. Satellite TV also needs to be analyzed in detail and avoid one size fits all.
Zhao Dongling, a representative to the National People's Congress, said,"You encourage one star for each drama, two stars, or three stars. For these TV stations, you can allow four stars. Now three-quarters of TV stations are losing money, which can allow them to have blood-producing functions."
During the meeting, some National People's Congress deputies also called for the introduction of relevant support policies to attract the audience back to the TV.
Gao Mingqin, a representative to the National People's Congress, said,"Satellite TV is the 'party station' of all provinces and the main front for propaganda. Relevant management departments should introduce some more powerful measures to create a more conducive environment for the development of satellite TV."
Jiao Wenyu, a representative to the National People's Congress, said,"Television can carry out positive cooperation with new media. It can not only give full play to the advantages of traditional media's strong editing capabilities and keen news sense, but also give full play to the user advantages and technical foundation of new media to achieve positive complementarity and integration development."
