"Night falls, the lights are on, and I slowly pace, as if I am stepping on the clock on the customs building and meeting her. Time slows down, neon turns into a streamer, fantasizing about traveling together to a grand ball. Until the time freezes, I realize that the night is deeply looking forward to falling into a dream safely with the Bund..." The theme of this song is the encounter between the piano and "she"."She" is a cello, a certain person, and the "Bund". The trumpet at the beginning and end is a symbol of the city. The melody of the piano symbolizes the theme of walking. The cello then entered, first followed, then transformed into a dialogue. Then the music entered a dreamlike splendor, as if traveling through a world where real and illusory could not be distinguished, and finally returned, in a kind of beautiful expectation, it was not finished...

This piece of music was invited by the Bund. Lowe created music for the light and shadow of the Bund. Cellist Qian Ci invited to perform it together. It is a hymn to the lighting builders on both sides of the Pujiang River. It is also dedicated to the first China International Import Expo held in Shanghai. A special gift of the first China International Import Expo.

Regarding the Bund, performer Lowe has had too many beautiful fantasies and is afraid to start writing. He is just afraid of "offending" the classic Bund and is also afraid of generalizing it because this place is too important in Lowe's heart. Until I encountered this "proposition composition", I finally had the opportunity to express all my emotions and reveries to the fullest. The Bund is classical, so the whole song interprets a modern encounter in a classical and classic way. The lights that flow and follow the music choreography give the Bund a youthful life. Walking through it is like being at the boundary between illusion and reality. Regarding the creation process and feelings of "Walking on the Bund", piano player and composer Luo Wei once gave a brief interview to media reporters. We can better understand the connotation and artistic charm of the work from it:

Reporter: When you received this task, what was your first feeling? Under what circumstances was the music written?

Lowe: This is an honor and a romantic thing. Creating music for such a place is like a dream, full of happiness, and can also realize the longing you once had.

Just like all contract creation,"time is tight and the task is heavy". How to write without repetition and stereotypes is very difficult, because there are too many excellent music works written for the Bund.

In fact, after receiving the commission to create, I started preparing that night and spent the night wandering around the Bund looking for inspiration and composing the song. The next day, the Huangpu District Lighting and Landscape Management Office, which is also the chief design unit of the entire Bund landscape lighting, invited me to board a boat to visit Pujiang. I think that during those three hours, the cool wind blowing on the deck, recalling every "encounter" with the Bund, as well as every story that happened on the Bund, were my most important source of inspiration. The speed of the music is 60, which is like the speed of the second hand moving, so at the beginning of the creation, the two elements of walking and flowing time were set. And this creation is a combination of light and shadow, so I also set a warm and gorgeous theme in the color of the music.

After getting off the boat and going home, it took me less than three hours to complete the creation of the theme. Then, I completed several revisions and extensions in three weeks. Finally, the symphony orchestra completed the performance. This is what everyone hears now."Walking on the Bund"

Reporter: In your heart, what kind of existence is the Bund?

Luo Wei: Before I came to Shanghai, the Bund and Shanghai were like equals. Going to see the Bund was also my greatest longing for Shanghai. I have not been in Shanghai for many years. Every time I need to relax and relax, I will definitely think of the Bund at midnight. There are not many people, and with the wind blowing, I can sing freely and figure out many things. Of course, in addition to the Bund at night, the Bund architecture during the day gives people a classic feeling and reminds people of the freezing of time.

Reporter: You mentioned in your creative explanation that "she" may be someone or "the Bund". So what kind of intention does "she" have in your mind?

Luo Wei: Actually, when I wrote this song, I thought of "I" walking on the Bund, so "she" is not only the beautiful figure I met on the Bund, but also the Bund itself, more like an encounter with time here.

Reporter: To be able to write such a beautiful piece of music, you and Shanghai must have a feeling different from other places, right? What is your story about Shanghai?

Luo Wei: Yes, in fact, in the more than ten years I have lived in Shanghai, I have created too many works about Shanghai. There are some silent paths about those famous characters. I especially like to walk through the small roads in the French Concession in Shanghai in the early morning or dusk. This is an important part of my daily life. Many inspirations are also born on these small roads. My music diary "Piano Essays" series was also born in Shanghai and has written more than 200 songs so far. I turned my attachment to Shanghai and my longing and reverie every day into inspiration at my fingertips. I even felt that the temperament and piano of the city of Shanghai are unified, inclusive and classical.

Reporter: It is mentioned above that cellist Qian Ci was invited. You and Teacher Qian Ci must have a tacit understanding, right? What works have you collaborated with before? What stories happened between the two teachers when they collaborated on this theme music? Share it with us ~

Luo Wei: I have been friends with cellist Qian Ci for ten years. We previously published a "Violinist on Shaoxing Road", which was adapted based on my "Piano Essays", and Qian Ci also gave this album a touching love story. Our second ensemble album will also be released at the end of the year, called "Little Reunion". In particular, Qian Ci now lives in New York, so every time she collaborates on recording, she always comes from afar.

Reporter

: How did you feel when you listened to your work being played on the Bund?

Luo Wei: The excitement is beyond words. Maybe for the creator, at that moment, there will be an illusion that the entire Bund belongs to him! I hope this happiness will also bring it to every pedestrian who hears this song on the Bund, and I hope it will become a small reason for you to go to the Bund.
