On May 20, the unveiling ceremony of the monument to the rescue of British prisoners by East Pole fishermen was held in Zhoushan East Pole Island, Zhejiang Province. The next day, the crew of the film "East Pole Island" attended relevant activities. The descendants of British prisoners of war who participated in the activities met with Fei Zhenxiang, producer and chief producer Liang Jing and producer Zhu Wenjiu of the film "East Pole Island," and watched selected films in advance. Mrs Winnie, daughter of British prisoner of war Dennis Morley who survived the incident, said bluntly,"The scenes in the film are very impactful, and the characters are also very realistic. I was deeply shocked to see the pictures of China fishermen heroically saving British prisoners." Ms. Lindsay, the niece of British prisoner of war John Weaver who was killed in the incident, also said emotionally,"I am very shocked. The film is very powerful and I can't help but want to continue watching it."

On the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Fascist War, Mrs. Winnie hopes that after the movie is released, more people will see the story of the East Pole rescue and understand this history. Mrs. Winnie wrote a letter to President Xi Jinping in 2022 and received a reply. Xi Jinping pointed out in his reply,"The touching story of fishermen from Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, China's heroic rescue of British prisoners of war on the ship Lisbon Maru in 1942 was an important witness to China and Britain fighting side by side as allies in the Second World War. It is also a historical story of the deep friendship between the two peoples." From the unveiling of the monument to the release of "East Pole Island", this dusty memory and touching story spanning more than 80 years will be seen again to the world.

Producer and chief producer Liang Jing thanked the descendants of British prisoners of war for sharing their experiences and feelings with the film team, saying that the creative team "has the responsibility to let the world see this touching story." Liang Jing also shared with everyone a touching experience at the Cannes Film Festival. A British producer told Liang Jing that his uncle was the victim of the incident. Because he saw "East Pole Island" on the cover of the Cannes magazine, he specially went to the film company and thanked China filmmakers for making such a film. Let more people know what his heroic ancestors experienced during their lifetime. This exchange made the main creative team feel that the creation was of great significance.
