In March, imported films dominate the movie market, but Hollywood no longer dominates the movie market

In the film market in March, imported films did have an advantage in terms of momentum and quality. "Wolverine 3: Battle to the Death","Lego Batman Movie","A Dog's Mission", the game adaptation "Final Fantasy 15: King's Sword" released on March 10, Colin Firth and Jude Law starred in the biopic "The Genius Catcher", as well as "Beauty and the Beast" and "King Kong: Skull Island" released in late March, are all quite capable of attracting money. In contrast, domestic films are in urgent need of boosting morale, and good works currently available to fight against imported films are scarce.

However, the rebound of imported Hollywood films after the Spring Festival will not allow them to return to the level where they dominated the China film market a few years ago. The late Spring Festival period is originally a off-season for the domestic film market, and it is a period of time that we don't pay much attention to. Therefore, in March, the battle between imported films and domestic films seemed to have a gap in strength, but it was actually not fierce and was not a battleground for military experts.

On the other hand, China's film market is actively repairing itself. Compared with the shock of the China film market in 2016, China films started well in 2017. As of the first two months, in 2017, box office revenue had been 10.926 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.73%, and 304 million movie-goers, which was the same as the market situation in the same period in 2016.

The strength of China's films has made them "resistant" to imported films. Under such circumstances, it is also a good sign that imported films are exerting pressure on domestic films. China movie star Jackie Chan also said in an interview during a recent CPPCC meeting that Hollywood films can inspire China filmmakers to produce more good works. He is very grateful to the audience for supporting domestic films, so that China films can have the funds to learn and use advanced foreign film technology, hire professional talents, and better compete with foreign films.

However, China films have not been able to produce hits recently, and the films released are not "stunning" enough. Occasionally, films with good box office sales are inevitably accompanied by doubts and gaps in reputation. Therefore, China films should really cheer up and improve their morale. At present, the work that counters domestic films is "August" directed by Zhang Dalei, which was released at the end of March. At the Taiwan Film Golden Horse Awards at the end of last year,"August" won two awards: Best Newcomer and Best Picture, creating the first for an independent film directed by a young director and starred by an amateur actor to win the Golden Horse Best Drama Award. China films need to be tried and innovated, and created with a clear and rational attitude. Use the quality of the film to cultivate people to expand the movie-watching group. Only in this way can China films exude greater charm.
