Ouyang Changlin, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former director of Hunan Radio and Television Station, said in an exclusive interview with reporters that the fundamental reason for "following the trend" is that due to ratings pressure, TV stations are more willing to choose a relatively safe introduction program model and dare not take risks on innovative programs. reporter: Now variety shows follow suit and homogenization are serious because our originality is not enough?
Ouyang Changlin: It is inevitable to follow suit. TV stations rely on variety shows to increase their market influence, and also consider issues such as ensuring ratings and advertising returns. Faced with fierce competition and survival pressure, platforms have been kidnapped by ratings, ratings have been kidnapped by models (referring to the introduction of foreign program copyright models) and stars, and production organizations have been kidnapped by platforms, which has almost become the new normal in the industry.
Reporter: TV stations tend to adopt a mature model of introducing programs and are unwilling to take risks. Does it also squeeze the space for innovative programs?
Ouyang Changlin: The competition for TV stations is fierce. Of course, it is relatively safe to introduce a model. For TV stations, original programming is a mission and a social responsibility, but due to the pressure of survival, they will not use too many resources to do it. Innovation becomes a zombie lying on the introduction model. Platforms need to remove abductions to give more room for innovation.
Reporter: There is another phenomenon. Nowadays, the stars invited by programs are becoming more and more famous. What do you think of the phenomenon of some programs betting "treasure" on stars?
Ouyang Changlin: Nowadays, the star appearance fees of "no highest, only higher" are constantly refreshed. The high risk threshold brought by the sharp increase in product costs makes it impossible for second-and third-line satellite TV stations to afford programs.
Reporter: In a market environment where homogenization is serious and relying on big-name stars, how should we encourage innovation?
Ouyang Changlin: Further rigidly limit the number of program models introduced by the media and the proportion of programs becoming stars. The platform allocates a certain amount of time and resources to provide space for trial and error tolerance for incubating local innovation, and puts innovation in a more important position than ratings and revenue-generating rankings. Improve the innovation reward mechanism and boldly reward innovative talents.
The "fan economy" and
"national star" models are difficult to replicate.
Reporter: "Fan economy" is also a hot word this year. Can the earliest "fan economy" be counted from Li Yuchun in the era of super girls?
Ouyang Changlin: Yes. The "fan economy" is first of all a phenomenon. From the perspective of commercial nature, it contributes traffic and ratings, and will have certain economic value, but it does not yet constitute an independent main business model.
Reporter: Now there are some programs that also hope to rely on the "fan economy" to seek selling points?
Ouyang Changlin: Only when the audience chooses stars will the platform choose stars, and finally the capital will choose stars. Young people in China have just caught up with the generation of only children and have been chasing stars since childhood.
Reporter: But after Li Yuchun, it seems that there has been no such "national star". Does this mean that relying on programs to promote who, this model is not replicable?
Ouyang Changlin: Yes, history may repeat itself, but for many people, there is only one opportunity. It was at the right moment that a Super Girl draft was inspired. Later, the (newbie) must have come out in another way. Isn't the little fresh meat now the Li Yuchun of those days in a sense? Now it is difficult for "Super Girl" to duplicate (create) Li Yuchun's (red).
Reporter: Now that the audience has been intrigued by variety shows by big-name stars, will there still be a market for programs that are purely amateurs (ordinary people)?
Ouyang Changlin: It is not that amateur programs cannot be done, but they cannot repeat the previous (old model). Amateur people want to tell true stories in a daily manner.
