YouTube reached this milestone late last year, and the actual data is much higher than previously reported. The company said that since it began recommending personalized videos through algorithms in 2012, this number has increased tenfold.

Recommendations can help users better explore more content: Up to 400 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube every minute, and 65 years of videos are uploaded in one day.

Facebook and Netflix announced in January 2016 that their users watched 100 million and 116 million hours of video per day, respectively. Nielsen data shows that the average American watches about 1.25 billion hours of live and recorded TV programs every day, a steady decline in recent years.
