Every year, the Film Project Venture Capital Association selects about 30 high-quality projects to provide them with opportunities to face investors, producers, distributors, and promote them to the media.

Born in 2007,"Film Project Venture Capital" is the film project financing market of the Shanghai International Film Festival. It has always been committed to promoting Chinese films and supporting emerging filmmakers.

Every year, the film project venture capital selects about 30 high-quality projects-ranging from the latest plans of mature directors to original works by new directors, providing them with opportunities to face investors, producers, distributors, and promote them to the media.

In 2014, Film Project Venture Capital clarified its positioning of supporting Chinese-speaking newcomers and launched the "Youth Film Plan" subunit, focusing on supporting and paying attention to the first and second feature film projects of Chinese-speaking newcomers directors.

This year, there are still 30 projects shortlisted for venture capital, 10 of which were selected for the "Youth Film Program". The film festival invited Xu Weiwen, Pan Xiao, Lu Sheng, and Chen Jie as trainers of the "Youth Film Plan" to provide closed-door training for the 10 shortlisted groups of young project parties, to assess their pulse story creativity, consult project development, and teach negotiation skills. At the same time, famous director Guan Hu, producer Liu Kailuo, and screenwriter Zhang Jialu were invited to serve as venture capital judges.

This year, the venture capital department of the Shanghai Film Festival received a total of 380 project applications from 21 countries, and 30 projects broke through. The shortlisted works have a wide range of themes, gathering senior seniors in the industry and talented young directors. In the past three days, they have received enthusiastic response from the industry and completed a total of 690 negotiation meetings. At the same time, this year's organizers have added a new "Venture Capital Training Camp" incubation education activity to the activity structure dominated by project financing negotiations, and also provided special recommendations for post-production financing for last year's project "Friends" that has been completed.

So far, a total of 44 projects have been successfully completed, including many excellent films that have made achievements in reputation, such as "The Qin of Steel"(Zhang Meng) and "Hello! Among the 10 shortlisted projects for the "Youth Film Project","Summer I Killed"(Director: Zhou Houheng, Producer: Li Jing) won the honor of "Best Young Director Project". The jury believes that this project combines the sharpness of a young director and the thickness of a mature creator, calmly telling the fate of the characters with great tension.

"Summer Killed by Me"

Among the 20 non-youth shortlisted projects, the "Best Creative Project" was won by "Buckwheat Grows Crazy"(Director: Xu Zhanxiong Producer: Fujii Tree). The jury believed that the project saw the big picture from the small, expressed its appreciation for facing the fate of small people in the changing world of turbulent society, and expressed its "belief in the power of future films-there are infinite possibilities."

The film's producer Yuki Fujii told reporters that the complete script will be completed next month and there is currently a 7,000-word story outline. Fujii also said: "This is a three-stage story with a multi-line narrative, just like" Pulp Fiction ", so it particularly tests the skills of the screenwriter. The story tells the life of young people in Shanghai and surrounding cities in the late 1990s. status." Currently, the project is still in the incubation stage, and a well-known director will be hired to supervise it.

As

for the "most valuable investment project" of "Buckwheat Grows Crazy", it was won by "Second Half"(Director: Zhang Rongji, Producer: Chen Baoxu). The jury believes that this project is a powerful and hormonal story, coupled with the delicate and mature creative team, it is exciting and promising.

Chen Baoxu, a producer of "Second Half" who has participated in various film festivals, told reporters that she had different impressions of venture capital at the Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai film festivals."The direction of venture capital at the Shanghai Film Festival is different every year. This time, venture capital is very similar to the venture capital at the Golden Horse Award. For example, the choice of taste is more artistic and artistic films. This is my initial impression. Hong Kong is relatively international and has some non-Chinese film projects. Taiwan's venture capital fairs are more warm and comfortable."

However, the significance of venture capital is not only that investors find good projects and film companies find gold owners, but also has another function, that is, the main creative team can use venture capital to get suggestions from peers, judges and other industry insiders on everything from stories to project potential.

Chen Baoxu told reporters: "I attended the venture capital fair before and heard their opinions, which really made us go back and think about it. Or because we didn't listen to their opinions and went their own way, we really experienced the bitter consequences later. Through my experience in venture capital, I began to know how to use such platforms."

According to Guan Hu, chairman of the venture capital review and famous director, the venture capital unit of any film festival is the most meritorious. "I can tell you to ensure that the review process is fair and that all elements do not affect the review." Guan Hu also sent a message to the young director during the award ceremony: "I want to have a word with the director. Although it has been hard for the three days, the discussion, study, and debate with you have given me great joy. As we all know, filmmakers nowadays are confused and confused, but seeing the pure enthusiasm of young filmmakers has made me regain the honor of being a director and a filmmaker."

Another reviewer and famous screenwriter Zhang Tianlu told reporters,"The consensus among the three of us is quite high. All three of us review attach great importance to stories because it is, after all, the early stage of the project and the potential cannot be seen yet. But after chatting with the director, I became more determined whether there was potential. We will see the long outline, and some will also see the scripts, because some scripts have more than one draft completed."
