They crossed the Yalu River and fought for the motherland, thus changing their fate. Different from previous films on the subject of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, one of the major attractions of the volunteers is these youthful figures in the flames of war. The film does not take a person or a team as the protagonist, but a multi-line narrative, showing the moving images of "heroes everywhere" in New China.
In the poster, the volunteers are dressed in simple military uniforms and eight young faces are either simple and innocent, or bold and resolute. The role of the actor reveals the clue of the story: the 63rd Army of Li Xiang (Zhu Yilong), known as the "Hero Iron Army", participated in the Tieyuan blocking battle, fighting for 13 days and nights, such as Mount Tai; Li Xiao (Zhang Zifeng) once worked as an interpreter in the Chinese delegation to the United Nations and joined the front line of the battlefield. Sun Xing (Chen Feiyu) comes from the world-famous "longevity Army"-the 38th Volunteer Army, whose company is the "Songgufeng Hero Company" feared by the US military. Two heroes, company commander Dai Ruyi (Wei Chen) and instructor Yang Shaocheng (Yin Fang), also appeared in the film. In order to be closer to the 1950 volunteers in terms of physical shape and temperament, actors playing military roles need to undergo a great deal of rigorous militarization training, with 300 actors practicing with the group for a month. The set became a "boot camp". In the end, the actors completed the transformation from actors to volunteer soldiers with extreme efforts and sincere attitude.
In order to truly show the battlefield, the crew is equipped with more than 30,000 sets of costumes, including more than 200 types and styles, including more than 60 kinds of military uniforms, making more than 100,000 jin of old clothes, restoring the shapes of nearly 100 great men and making tens of thousands of inverted models with different damage effects. Large old weapons, such as planes and tanks, are all copied at 1:1, and it takes a month to build three planes alone. All the creators carefully polish every detail of production, which comes from the sense of responsibility of writers and artists to "truly restore history" and the sense of mission of "living up to the national heroes".
