Shu Qi's first self-written and directed film "Girl" was officially announced to be selected in the "Centrepiece" unit of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival yesterday after being shortlisted in the main competition unit of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.
Shu Qi said that he was "extremely happy" to be recognized one after another at the International Film Festival and said: "Thank you to the entire crew for their hard work since the sultry May and under the scorching sun from June, July, and August until September." Girl "has gained a beautiful report card at the International Film Festival." Producer Ye Rufen said: "Thank you for the invitation to the Toronto Film Festival. From Europe to North America, I hope more audiences will see the film. Thinking of last year's scorching summer, the crew and team sweaty shooting, I would like to thank the team again! I will urge the director to invite everyone to dinner!"
With the announcement of the good news of being shortlisted for the "Central Screening" unit of the Toronto International Film Festival, the festival trailer for "Girl" also made its debut. In the film, two girls look at the same cloud in the blue sky, but there are two different interpretations, highlighting the personality differences between the two girls and leaving more room for imagination for the stories they derive.
"Girl" features powerful actors such as Qiu Ze, 9m88, Bai Xiaoying, and Lin Pintong. The film depicts Lin Xiaoli (played by Bai Xiaoying), a girl who lived in Keelung, Taiwan in the 1980s, growing up in confusion and eager to escape the darkness. It was not until she met Li Lili (played by Lin Pintong), who was fearless and lived at ease, that she saw the color of the world for the first time. However, this yearning touched the past trauma of her mother A Juan (9m88). At that time, she also longed for the future, but was trapped by reality. The girl and her mother reflect on each other in their intertwined destinies, like a mirror that reflects each other's injuries but is powerless.
