John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, recently stated in his "Supporting Hong Kong Films" blog that both the 2015 and 2016 Budgets have introduced measures to support Hong Kong films, including injecting HK $220 million into the "Film Development Fund" to support the development of Hong Kong films.

John Tsang said that the purpose of the budget's injection into the Film Development Fund is to try to increase Hong Kong's film production and cultivate film talents. An additional investment of HK$20 million this year is to increase the distribution and promotion expenses of Hong Kong local films in the Mainland, and to help them use CEPA to explore the mainland market, especially in Guangdong Province, which has a population of 100 million.

Tsang Junhua said that like other markets in the world, in addition to government policy support and departmental assistance, the development of the film industry has a huge impact. As the mainland film market continues to open up, many local Hong Kong producers have chosen to enter the huge mainland market and even other overseas markets, with outstanding results.

John Tsang believes that it is certainly gratifying that the Hong Kong film industry has a broader stage, but as a fan, he is still eager to enjoy more Hong Kong-made films with Hong Kong characteristics. The film industry is not only a major part of Hong Kong's cultural and creative industries. Hong Kong-made films are also one of the symbols of Hong Kong culture and a strong soft power exported to the world. A large part of Hong Kong's international image has been established through the efforts of several generations of Hong Kong filmmakers.
