Amazon has set up a $5 million fund to hire young writers to create new original stories for Audible, the audiobook company it acquired in 2008.

According to foreign media reports, Amazon is preparing to spend money to hire young screenwriters to create new original stories for Audible, the audiobook company it acquired in 2008.

Amazon just announced the news in the New York Times. It has established a $5 million fund from which writers can apply to create original stories. However, the company has not yet explained the process for applying for screenwriters. Audible originally planned to fund "about 12 screenwriters."

Donald Katz, founder and CEO of Audible, explained that the fund will be able to introduce some fledgling young screenwriters to a wider audience.

The company has recruited a group of highly accomplished talents to join this project. Its advisory team includes Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the New York Public Theater, screenwriter Lynn Notetage, who won a Pulitzer Prize this year, Tony Award-winning director Leigh Silverman, Obi Award-winning director Trip Cullman, and actress Annette Benin. This advisory team will be responsible for selecting potential screenwriters for the fund.

This is not the first time Audible has created original content. Like online movie rental services Netflix, Apple and Amazon PrimeVideo, Audible has begun promoting its "original audiobooks," including dubbed audiobooks by Martin Sheen, Nick Offerman and Lewis Black.
