Ali Literature promotes the "Photosynthesis Plan": supporting short and medium films to make profits through IP derivatives

Ali Literature recently announced the launch of the "Photosynthesis Plan" to create an open and cooperative IP derivative model with IP as the core. Liang Jie, president of Alibaba Literature Business of Alibaba Mobile Business Group, said that the traditional online literature business model of relying on novel payment is no longer enough to support the development of online literature. The new online literature business model with IP as the core is the general trend. However, the business model derived from new IP requires open cooperation in all links of the industrial chain to maximize the cultivation efficiency and derivative value of IP.

Pain point data of traditional online literature

In the past two years, the trend of IP video and gamification of online literature has been very obvious. Online literature works represented by "Little Times","How to Sheng Xiao Mo", and "Hua Qian Gu" have been very successful, making the Internet The literature industry has received unprecedented attention, but the online literature industry has not explored a business model that can be supported on a large scale.

In this regard, Liang Jie believes that the reason behind this is that at present, online literature platforms are closed and independent, IP is limited to exposure and cultivation within their own systems, and the efficiency of IP cultivation has not been maximized. In addition, online literature is also relatively closed and independent in the entire derivative industry chain. It only makes profits by reselling copyright on IP and does not deeply participate in the derivative industry chain of IP development.

Liang Jie pointed out that under the new IP derivative model of open cooperation, IP development efficiency and conversion rate will be greatly improved. In the future, it is not impossible for online literature to rely entirely on IP derivatives to make profits for free. Even online literature may enter the era of free.

Ali Literature's "Photosynthesis Plan"

In the past two years, a large number of online literary works such as "Little Times","How to Sheng Xiao Mo","Hua Qian Gu", and "Lang Ya Bang" have achieved great success, but most of these works are works that have become famous five to ten years ago, and new IPs and new gods have not appeared in large numbers. Ali Literature hopes to use the "Exposure Plan for Medium and Short Works" and the "High-Quality Sunshine Support Plan" in the "Photosynthesis Plan" to break through this bottleneck.

Zhou Yun, editor-in-chief of Ali Literature, said that in everyone's regular perception, the longer online literature works, the better. However, it can be seen from the big data of Alibaba Literature Platform that the high subscription revenue caused by the accumulation of chapters does not represent high quality and high user reputation. Short and medium works with 1 million to 3 million words are actually more popular among readers.

To this end, Ali Literature has formulated a "Medium and Short Works Exposure Plan", which will allocate a large amount of funds and resources to promote about 1000 high-quality original short and medium online novels, and invite CPs to participate in this plan.

In addition, in terms of copyright content construction, Ali Literature has currently reached copyright cooperation with more than 150 content providers such as Migu Reading, Tianyi Reading, Chinese Online, Zongheng Chinese Network, China Publishing Group, and Boji Tianjuan. Regarding the current situation of falsely high IP copyright prices for online novels in the industry and high risks of subsequent IP development, Alibaba Literature announced the launch of an IP joint training plan and an IP joint development plan. Zhou Yun said that the Ali Literature Association insists on giving profits to authors and third-party platforms, investing resources and sharing risks together at a reasonable price, rather than simply selling at high copyright prices for profit.

According to reports, the cooperation between Ali Literature and Beijing Television Arts Center has begun to try this model. The film and television development of the new film "Zero Idol" by Ali Literature contracted writer Qi Genhu will cooperate in depth with the Beijing Television Art Center. At present, the suspense novel "Zero Idol" has been serialized on the Ali Literary Platform, and the adaptation of the script will start in the first quarter of 2016. The original author Qi Genhu will also be deeply involved in the adaptation of the script.
