The film is based on the surviving images of the Nanjing Massacre. We have all seen the photos in textbooks and news, but few people know how the images recording the crimes of the Japanese army were preserved and made public.

When talking about the original intention of the creation, the Olympic bid director said: "I hope that through the subtle incision of the 'photo studio', we can see the big one from the small one." Therefore, he chose to use the series of stories about the experiences of several ordinary people living in Nanjing during the Holocaust, and through the process of developing negative films, to show a story in which criminal evidence was exposed, vividly presenting the history familiar to the audience through a rare perspective on the big screen.

The film begins from the perspective of postman Ah Chang (played by Liu Haoran). In order to survive, he pretended to be an apprentice at Jixiang Photo Studio. Under the coercion of Japanese translator Wang Guanghai (played by Wang Chuanjun), he agreed to help the Japanese army develop the negatives. The small photo studio became a temporary safe house during the massacre. In order to deceive the Japanese army, A Chang pretended to be a couple with Yuxiu (Gao Ye) during the day and learned printing skills from the owner Lao Jin (Wang Xiao) who hid in the photo studio at night. In the process of developing the film, photos of the Japanese massacre of Nanjing people were developed and exposed in the darkroom. They both want to survive the massacre, but also began to figure out how to send out the evidence of the Japanese massacre...
