The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (hereinafter referred to as the "State Administration of Radio, Film and Television") recently issued a notice, deciding to expand the pilot scope of the TVOS smart TV operating system among cable operators. This means that in the future, terminals such as OTT set-top boxes launched by cable operators in various places can only install and use TVOS1.0, and no other operating systems are allowed.

It is understood that the TVOS TV operating system promoted this time is a smart TV operating system jointly developed by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and some research and development units. TVOS 1.0 was officially released in early June last year. Subsequently, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television issued an order requiring cable TV OTT boxes to be equipped with a TVOS system. At that time, the first batch of pilot projects were carried out by Jiangsu Cable and Shanghai Dongfang Cable, two cable TV operators, each undertaking the pilot promotion task of 500,000 units.

Now, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has expanded the scope of the pilot, requiring terminals such as smart TV set-top boxes purchased or integrated developed and installed by various cable TV network companies to use TVOS1.0, and also to comply with the relevant technical specifications of NGB next-generation radio and television networks. In addition, the TVOS 1.0 system has correspondingly added an information security module to strengthen users 'information security. In addition, TVOS 1.0 also takes into account the technologies of existing operating systems, such as Linux, Android, etc.

There has been no clear consensus in the industry as to which operating system smart TV is more suitable. Although 90% of smart TVs currently use Android, more and more TV manufacturers have begun to try other options. LG said it plans to install the Web OS system it acquired on 70% of its TVs. Samsung has also made plans that the next step will be to use the Tizen system developed by itself for smart TVs. While the TV system market has not yet been completely stable, this regulation by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television is also based on the consideration of seizing the market. However, some terminal TV companies said that after TVOS 1.0 is fully commercialized, it will control applications on TVs, which may affect the development speed of smart TV applications.
