State Administration of Radio, Film and Television: Drug users and prostitutes will not tolerate damaging the image of the industry

Regarding the recent incident in which individual screenwriters and directors were investigated and punished for prostitution and drug abuse, the State Administration made it clear that they must not allow illegal crimes or scandals to appear in the industry, and will never tolerate evil and violators.

On October 15, General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over a symposium on literary and artistic work in Beijing and delivered an important speech. In order to better study and implement General Secretary Xi's speech, on October 22, the Television Drama Department of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the China Television Arts Committee jointly held the "Symposium on Studying and Implementing the Spirit of General Secretary Xi's Important Speech on Literary and Art Work in TV Drama". Tian Jin, member of the Party Leadership Group of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, deputy director, Li Jingsheng, director of the Television Drama Department of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, Li Zhun, former vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and 16 representatives including director You Xiaogang, actors Tang Guoqiang and Wu Xiubo delivered speeches. At the symposium, representatives such as Peng Jianming, You Xiaogang, and Tang Guoqiang, deputy editor-in-chief of CCTV, all raised the industry chaos in which ratings are dominated by commercial dramas and Lei dramas. The State Administration of China also said that some TV stations are concerned about the comprehensive evaluation system of ratings. The implementation of the opinions of the system is not ideal enough. The State Administration of Commerce will also further strengthen ratings surveys. Television industry: Tang Guoqiang and You Xiaogang accused the General Administration of Viewing Theory  of further strengthening ratings surveys.

General Secretary Xi emphasized at the symposium on the 15th that a good work should put social benefits first, and should also be social benefits and economic benefits. Work that is unified. Literature and art cannot be slaves to the market, and should not be covered with the stench of money.

In response to the issue of putting social benefits first in literary and artistic works, at the symposium on studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi's important speech on literary and artistic work, many representatives pointed out that there are some industry chaos in the TV drama industry that is eager for quick success and instant benefits. On the same day, Tang Guoqiang first delivered a speech saying: "At present, there are problems such as marketization tendencies, fast-food consumption, and over-impetuousness in the industry. Too much attention is paid to commercial interests, resulting in phenomena such as ratings, box office, and click-through rates."

Peng Jianming, deputy editor-in-chief of CCTV, also pointed out that ratings cannot be used to evaluate the quality of a TV series."In the reality that ratings affect the direction of TV series, I think the State Administration of China should come up with more accurate and comprehensive standards on this issue. The new standards revolve around the people, whether the people are happy or not, and whether the people like them or not."

At the same time, Peng Jianming pointed out that many ratings are currently occupied by a large number of commercial dramas, mythological dramas, and ancient costumes and historical dramas. In the new year, CCTV will pay close attention to the production of customized dramas and homemade dramas."In the existing market conditions, selecting and purchasing dramas is a passive behavior, and it is often impossible to choose good dramas and large dramas suitable for CCTV's prime time broadcast. There are a large number of commercial bureaus in the production of TV dramas in the entire market."

Director You Xiaogang also believes that the existing ratings standards have lost credibility."We urgently call for the establishment of a more accurate, scientific standard system that can meet the aesthetics of people of all walks of life. Why should we put the evaluation standard above the standards set by Soffrey and others? In recent years, these data have greatly interfered with the TV market, and the ratings have been criticized a lot. The ratings have lost their credibility."

In response, Tian Jin, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, pointed out that regarding the comprehensive evaluation system for ratings, some stations implement it well, some stations implement it poorly, and some stations still simply use ratings as an evaluation criterion so far. Tian Jin said that the central leadership and the State Administration attach great importance to the issue of ratings data surveys and have begun to further strengthen ratings surveys.

Television practitioners: The State Administration of China said that drug users and prostitutes harm the image of the industry  and will not tolerate evil tendencies.

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the symposium on literature and art that every era has its spirit. Literature and art are the project that builds the soul, and literary and artistic workers are the engineers of the soul. After studying General Secretary Xi's speech, Tian Jin, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, put forward four requirements for literary and artistic workers: truly put the people at heart, truly put social benefits first, and truly regard improving quality as an important task. Work and truly regard both morality and art as a lifelong pursuit.

On the issue of combining morality and art, Tian Jin, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, pointed out: "Some time ago, some screenwriters and directors were investigated and punished by the public security organs for taking drugs and whoring. Although it was an individual act, as public figures, it damaged the image of the industry and corrupted the social atmosphere, causing a very bad impact." He said: "Some practitioners have chaotic values and moral decline. The State Administration of China has made it clear that it must not allow illegal and criminal actors and those with scandals to speak out in radio, film and television works, and will never tolerate all kinds of evil tendencies. It is hoped that TV drama workers must recognize their identity and mission, and that various associations in the TV drama industry will exert the spirit of self-teaching and self-discipline."
