new media news website Quartz recently used big data analysis to select the 100 most acclaimed directors in the world since 1992. American director Richard Linklater, who has directed "Before the Dawn of Love","Boyhood" and "Each Time of Youth", ranked first, becoming the best director in 25 years. China directors Zhang Yimou and Jia Zhangke ranked 23rd and 24th with the same scores, ranking among the top Asian directors.

The selection first converts movie reviews into numbers, and then gives an overall rating of 0 to 100 based on these numbers. Most of the films participating are American films, and there are also many foreign language films released in the United States. In order to select the best directors, candidate directors must have at least more than six films, and the average score of each director's six films with the highest scores since 1992 is taken.

Based on this calculation method, Damien Chazzere, the director who filmed films such as La La Land and Bursting Drummers, was elected as the most promising new director. Richard Linklater's "Boyhood", Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" and Krzyshtof Kieslowski's "Blue, White and Red Trilogy Red" became the three films that received full marks (100 points).

On the list, the top three Asian directors are Iranian director Jaffa Panahi, Japanese director Yukazu Arie, and China directors Zhang Yimou and Jia Zhangke (tied). Both Zhang Jia scored 78.2 points. In addition, Ang Lee ranked 31st with 76.8 points, and Wong Kar-wai ranked 37th with 75.5 points. South Korean directors Park Chan-wook and Kim Kidd ranked 69th and 70th with the same points of 71.5, Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa ranked 69th with 69.7 points, and Hong Kong director To Ki-bong ranked 76th with 68.7 points.
